Zombie Sing-a-long Part 1

I never intended to become the "zombie guy." But 3 albums about the undead, I guess, qualifies me for the position.

The first album, Zombie Sing-a-long, features 10 songs about the undead meant to be sung around the campfire. I kept them simple, just me and my guitar, singer/songwriter style. I even performed 4 of the songs from the album live on camera (below). Feel free to check them out and make a comment at the bottom of the page.

If you want to add Zombie Sing-a-long Part 1 to your collection, I would be absolutely grateful. Here are a couple of buy links:

Grandma
Music and Lyrics by Craig Nybo

Zombie Sing-a-long in the beginning was meant to be a collection of folksy songs about zombies meant to be sung around the campfire. Grandma fits this description well. Grandma was inspired by such down home favorites as Grandmas Feather Bed, Over the River and Through the Woods, and I'll Be Home for Christmas. In the song, a family sets out for their faithful visit to grandma's house. The only catch: grandma is a zombie.

All of My Best Friends are Zombies
Music and Lyrics by Craig Nybo

This was the first zombie song I wrote. Initially, I intended to write a single zombie song. But 1 turned into 2, which turned into 3, which turned into an album, which turned into 3 albums. It's a long story. I wrote All of My Best Friends are Zombies in the spirit of Piano Man by Billy Joel. Although the two songs don't share much in the way of similarity, I have always enjoyed Joel's descriptions of those around him at the bar in his song. What would life be like if you were surrounded by a hoard of undead and they were all your best friends? I think this song answers the question.

So Tender
Music by Craig Nybo, Lyrics by Mark Steiner

Collaboration was a big part of the Zombie Sing-a-long albums. I reached out to several friends of mine and asked for lyrics, poems that I could put to music. I deliberately did not include my friends in the music composition part of the process. I just delivered a song, complete with their lyrics. It felt kind of like whisking off the shroud and revealing a brand new invention right before their eyes. My lifelong friend, Mark Steiner, gave me the lyrics for So Tender. I think this song is absolutely hilarious. Let me know what you think.

Ship of Zombies
Music and Lyrics by Craig Nybo

I originally composed Ship of Zombies as a Rustmonster song. In the beginning, I and my friends in the band themed Rustmonster as a modern pirate shanty band. I thought it would be cool to intermix pirates and zombies. And so this song was born. We have recorded Ship of Zombies as Rustmonster but we have never released it. In the meantime, here is an acoustic version of the song, singer/songwriter style.

Come March With Us
Music by Craig Nybo, Lyrics by Ben Fuller

A good friend of mine, Ben Fuller, wrote the lyrics for Come March With Us. I composed the music with no input from him at all. I always enjoy unveiling the finished product and watching the other contributors' reactions. I believe at the time, Ben was toying with the idea of writing libretto all about the undead. I think he was trying this song out to see where it might fit in his story. He mentions a few characters in the lyrics. I would be curious to see if he ever finished his libretto. Any way you look at it, Come March With Us is a pretty cool zombie army enlistment anthem.
